Therapist's Bio

Marcella ("Marcie") DiFedele, MS,LCSW is the owner and primary therapist at New Directions Counseling Center, LLC.  She is a 1985 graduate of the Columbia University School of Social Work in New York and has studied various forms of Psychotherapy and treatment modalities. Drawing from over 30 years of experience in the mental health and social services field, she views psychotherapy as an art with a scientific foundation and believes that different modalities work best with each individual or family. Her approach is supportive and strengths-based. Some of the treatment models which influence this therapist's work include Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Imago Relationship Therapy, Pranic Healing, Motivational Interviewing, and Sandtray ( or "sand play") therapy.

Sandtray work is a treatment method which Marcie frequently uses and considers an area of specialization in her practice. It is a powerful, creative and tactile method for clients to access conscious and subconscious thoughts in a non-threatening way. It is a form of therapy which can be especially effective when working with people of all ages who have difficulty articulating their feelings or who find that traditional talk therapy alone is just not enough.

In addition to being trained in sandtray therapy, Marcie is also trained in Eye Movement Desentization and Reprocessing( EMDR).

Regardless of the treatment method used, Marcie is known for her efforts to provide a warm, comfortable environment where each individual feels safe and valued. Here everyone's need to feel empowered and free of distressing thoughts and debilitating emotions is understood.
